Coach and ferry combination tickets in arrivals
Surat Thani International Airport is in Phunphin district, about 21 km west of Surat Thani town, roughly 30 minutes by road. In arrivals, desks sell combination tickets that put you on a coach to the ferry pier and then on the boat to Samui, Phangan or Tao; the coaches wait outside. To make the afternoon boats you need to land by about 15:00. There is also an airport bus into town, taxis and car rental. Buying checked bags before a Samui or Tao trip
All the airlines are low-cost, and their cheapest fares cover a cabin bag only. For a beach holiday with a full suitcase, buy checked baggage when you book; it costs more at the airport. Remember the ferry too: you will carry your bags on and off the boat.
Rain from October to December, dry January to August
The islands off Surat Thani follow a different weather pattern from Phuket. The heaviest rain falls from October to December, while January to August is mostly dry, which makes this a good summer alternative to the Andaman coast.

Surat Thani International Airport is 21 km west of downtown Surat Thani, on the way towards the coast and Khao Sok. It opened on 15 April 1981 with a single 2,500 m runway and now handles more than two million passengers a year, tenth among Thailand's airports.
