Chiang Mai to Hua Hin flight guide
From Chiang Mai (CNX), the nonstop flight to Hua Hin (HHQ) is flown by one airline, Thai AirAsia. The two airports are about 690 km apart in a straight line, and the flight takes roughly 1 hour 20 minutes, against a full day by road or rail through Bangkok.
The route matters more than its size suggests, because Hua Hin has no scheduled flights from Bangkok at all. Most visitors reach the resort by coach from Suvarnabhumi, about three hours on the road. For anyone already in the north, this flight cuts the capital out entirely. It does not run every day in every season, and the number of weekly departures quoted by different sources has varied during 2026, so look at the days that suit you in the search before you build a trip around it.
CNX is one of the closest big airports to a city centre in Thailand, around 15 minutes from the Old City by taxi or Grab. Domestic check-in is at the northern end of the single terminal. Draw cash before you go upstairs, because the ATMs and exchange booths are all on the ground floor. Between February and April, smoke from crop and forest fires can bring haze and the occasional delay, so leave some slack in your plans at the Hua Hin end.
Hua Hin Airport is a compact single building on Phetkasem Road, about 7 km north of the town centre. It works roughly 06:00 to 18:00 and handled only about 63,000 passengers in 2025, so getting off the plane and out of the door is quick. Taxis and limousines meet arrivals at agreed or fixed prices rather than meters, so settle the fare before your bags go in the boot. In daytime, shared songthaew pick-ups run along Phetkasem Road in front of the airport and into town every 10 to 15 minutes. There is no bank at the airport. Our Hua Hin Airport guide covers the terminal, the transport options and the Roong Reuang coach terminal close by.
Thai AirAsia's lowest fares include cabin baggage only. A checked bag is an add-on and is cheaper bought with the ticket than at the counter, and cabin bags are weighed strictly at Chiang Mai.
Hua Hin is at its best from December to April, when this stretch of the Gulf coast is dry and the sea is calm. September to November brings most of the rain. Chiang Mai's cool, clear months line up neatly with the start of Hua Hin's dry season, which makes a mountains-then-beach trip in December or January easy to put together.
Hua Hin Airport opened on 3 February 1961 and is run by the Department of Airports. The site straddles a provincial border, with part of it in Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan and part in Cha-am in Phetchaburi. Its single runway is about 2,100 m long.
Besides this Chiang Mai service, the only other scheduled airline listed is EZY Airlines, which links Hua Hin with Phuket, Hat Yai and Surat Thani. Berjaya Air once flew in from Kuala Lumpur's Subang airport, but as of July 2026 the airport had no international flights. Plans include enlarging the current terminal and building a second one.
Chiang Mai, at the other end, is a far bigger operation: Airports of Thailand handled 9.52 million passengers there in 2025, and the airport has stayed open 24 hours since April 2014.
We check practical details such as entry rules, seasons and costs against official government and tourism sources.

Thai AirAsia is the only airline on this route. Hua Hin has no scheduled flights to Bangkok, so this is the only way to fly between the two cities.
Basic Thai AirAsia fares include cabin baggage only. Add a checked bag when you book; it costs more at the airport.
Three things worth knowing before you book.
Thai AirAsia is the only carrier and does not fly every day in every season. Fix your dates around the flight rather than the other way round, and read any schedule-change email carefully.
Hua Hin Airport has no bank, and songthaews and most taxis take cash only. Use the ATMs on the ground floor at Chiang Mai before you go through security.
The Hua Hin terminal closes in the evening. If your flight is badly delayed, stay in touch with the airline rather than planning to sit it out at the airport.
Without this flight, Chiang Mai to Hua Hin means going through Bangkok by road or rail and then about three more hours south by coach, a full day or a night plus a morning.

Getting there
Yes. Thai AirAsia flies the route nonstop. It is the only airline on it, and the service does not run every day in every season, so check the days in the search before you plan.
About 1 hour 20 minutes. The airports are roughly 690 km apart in a straight line, which is a long day by land because the road and rail routes both go through Bangkok.
No scheduled ones. Most visitors arrive by Roong Reuang coach from Suvarnabhumi, which takes about three hours, so from the north the Chiang Mai flight is the only way to arrive in Hua Hin by air.
About 7 km north, on Phetkasem Road. A taxi or limousine takes 15 to 25 minutes, longer at the evening peak and on holiday weekends.
In daytime, yes. Shared pick-up trucks run along Phetkasem Road every 10 to 15 minutes; flag one down on the main road and pay the driver when you get off. After dark they stop running fixed routes and prices rise sharply.
No. Fares are fixed or agreed in advance. Confirm the price to your hotel before you load your bags.
No. The terminal works roughly 06:00 to 18:00 and is not open to passengers overnight. Book a room in town if you arrive late or leave early.
At the northern end of the ground-floor hall; international check-in is at the southern end. Allow at least two hours, more at weekends and during Thai holidays.
No. Hua Hin station is in the town centre, about 7 km from the airport, so you will need a taxi or songthaew between the two.
Prices & payment
Do not count on it. There is no bank at the airport, and songthaews and many taxis take cash only. Draw baht in Chiang Mai before you fly.
What's included
Not on the basic fare, which covers cabin baggage only. Add a checked bag when you book; it costs more if you leave it until the airport.
Timing & weather
December to April, when the Gulf coast is dry and the sea calm. From February, haze over Chiang Mai can cause the odd delay, so keep onward plans flexible.
