Chiang Mai to Singapore flight guide
Chiang Mai to Singapore is a 2,011 km nonstop flight of about 3 hours from Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). Scoot, the low-cost arm of Singapore Airlines, is the only airline on it, which makes it the direct choice for travellers ending a northern Thailand trip in Singapore or connecting through Changi.
Scoot sells a basic fare that covers a cabin bag only. Checked baggage, seat selection and meals cost extra, and they are cheaper bought online when you book than at the airport. Since Scoot shares Singapore Airlines' hub, connections at Changi to its own and partner flights are straightforward if booked on one ticket.
CNX is just south-west of the old city. A taxi or Grab from Nimman or the old town takes 15 to 20 minutes, the city's Yellow and Red bus lines run between 6 am and 11:30 pm, and red songthaews will take you out for a negotiated fare. Airports of Thailand advises arriving at least two hours ahead, which you will need when the international hall is busy in the cool season.
Changi has four terminals plus the Jewel complex, linked by the free Skytrain and walkways. Your boarding pass shows which terminal you land at.
The MRT station (CG2) is the cheap way into town. Ride one stop to Tanah Merah and change to the East West Line towards Tuas Link for the city, or change at Expo for the Downtown Line. The first train leaves at 5:31 am (5:59 am on Sundays and public holidays), and the last connection towards the city leaves at 11:18 pm.
Taxis wait at ranks in the arrival halls of all four terminals, 24 hours a day. Changi Airport puts the ride to the city at about 30 minutes and S$25 to S$45 on the meter, plus an airport surcharge of S$6, or S$8 between 5 pm and midnight; a 50 per cent surcharge applies from midnight to 6 am. Public buses 24, 27, 34, 36, 53, 110 and 858 stop at Terminals 1 to 3 and at Terminal 4.
All travellers who clear immigration in Singapore must submit the SG Arrival Card in the three days before arrival. It is free on the ICA website or the MyICA app, and the immigration authority warns against paid third-party sites. Passengers transiting without passing immigration do not need one. For visa rules by nationality, see our Singapore visa page.
Singapore runs on UTC+8, one hour ahead of Thailand, all year. A morning departure from Chiang Mai lands by early afternoon.
Arriving after the trains stop is common on evening flights. Taxis run from all of them terminals through the night, but the midnight surcharge of 50 per cent applies from 12 am to 5:59 am, so a late ride costs noticeably more. Bus fares must be paid in exact cash or with a contactless card, as drivers give no change.
You can file the SG Arrival Card on the MyICA app while waiting at CNX. Keep a screenshot of the confirmation in case the airport Wi-Fi is slow when you land.
Book well ahead for November, when Chiang Mai's Yi Peng lantern festival draws visitors, and for the late-December holidays, when Singapore residents fly out. Smoke from field burning hangs over Chiang Mai from about late February to April, which is a quieter time to travel.
Changi has nonstop flights across Asia, to Europe and to Australia. Our Dhaka to Singapore flights page covers one South Asian link through Changi. For the opposite way into Thailand, the Dhaka to Bangkok flights page shows the usual entry point before a domestic hop north.
