Phuket to London flight guide
Virgin Atlantic and TUI Airways fly nonstop from Phuket International Airport (HKT) to London during the northern winter. Virgin Atlantic goes to Heathrow (LHR) and TUI to Gatwick (LGW). The 9,903 km flight takes about 12 hours 55 minutes on average, and it is the only way to get from the island to the UK without a stop in Bangkok, the Gulf or Europe.
Virgin Atlantic started the route on 18 October 2026. It runs three times a week in the winter season, which this year ends on 26 March 2027. Flight VS215 leaves Phuket at 09:20 on Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays and reaches Heathrow at 16:00 the same day. The aircraft is a Boeing 787-9 with 31 Upper Class, 35 Premium and 192 Economy seats.
A daytime departure lets you check out of your hotel the same morning, but it means an early start. Phuket's beaches are up to an hour from the airport, and Airports of Thailand advises checking in at least two hours before departure.
TUI Airways adds a weekly flight from Gatwick in the winter season, mostly sold with TUI package holidays. Both airlines are full-service on this route, so economy fares normally include a checked bag and meals. Check your ticket for the London airport before booking a train or car home.
Phuket International Airport is at the northern end of the island. From Patong, the Airport Bus Express runs to the airport between 06:00 and 18:30, early enough for the morning Virgin flight. The Phuket Smart Bus links the airport with the west-coast beaches between Rawai and Surin. Taxis and booked transfers take about an hour from Patong or Kata. International check-in is in the international terminal, next to the domestic building.
From Heathrow, the Heathrow Express reaches London Paddington in about 15 minutes, with trains roughly every 15 minutes. The Elizabeth line reaches central London in under 40 minutes and stops at Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon and Liverpool Street. The Piccadilly line serves every terminal and is the cheapest rail option, taking under an hour. Gatwick, south of the city, has the Gatwick Express and Thameslink trains. Our Heathrow airport guide covers terminals and facilities in more detail.
Most visitors who do not hold a British or Irish passport now need either a visa or an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) for the UK. The ETA costs £20, is applied for on GOV.UK, and covers visits of up to six months. Nationals of some countries need a full visa, so check GOV.UK before you book.
Two details catch people out. Every traveller needs a separate ETA, including babies and children, and an ETA is also required if you pass through UK border control while connecting, for example to a domestic flight or onward to Ireland. Holding one does not guarantee entry, and UK Visas and Immigration handles ETA questions through webchat, not by phone. Apply only on GOV.UK, as other websites charge more than the official fee.
Phuket has no flights to Dhaka. Travellers from there usually reach the island through Bangkok (see Dhaka to Bangkok flights). Dhaka has its own direct route to the UK capital: see Dhaka to London flights. The Phuket route makes sense for a beach stop on the way to Britain.
