Dhaka to Kunming flight guide
China Eastern Airlines is the only airline flying nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) to Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG). Its Boeing 737-800 covers the 1,276 km in about 2 hours 20 minutes, making Kunming the closest large Chinese city to Dhaka. Changshui is a China Eastern hub, so many passengers connect on to other Chinese cities.
The 737-800 is a single-aisle jet. Economy tickets include 23 kg of checked baggage and 7 kg in the cabin, and on a single China Eastern ticket the same allowance normally carries over to a domestic connection. Kunming is your point of entry to China, so passport control and customs happen there even when the next flight is domestic. Allow time for the queues before an onward flight from Terminal 1.
Kunming sits about 1,900 m above sea level and is called the City of Eternal Spring for its mild weather all year. The airport itself is at 2,103 m. Rain falls mostly between May and October, heaviest from June to August. Some visitors notice mild breathlessness on stairs at first; drink plenty of water and leave the heavy walking for the second day.
The airport is 24.5 km north-east of the centre. Metro Line 6 leaves from level B2 under Terminal 1 and runs into the city, the cheapest way in. The Airport Shuttle bus from level B1 goes to Kunming Railway Station and Kunming South Railway Station for onward trains, and a long-distance coach station just west of the terminal serves towns across Yunnan. Hotels cluster around Green Lake Park downtown and along Dian Lake to the south.
China's visa rules depend on your passport. Bangladeshi citizens need a Chinese visa before flying; other travellers should check their own passport with a Chinese embassy. Yunnan keeps Beijing time, UTC+8, two hours ahead of Dhaka.
China Eastern Airlines operates direct flights from Dhaka (DAC) to Kunming (KMG). The flight takes about 2h 20m.

Our travel team answers questions about Dhaka to Kunming flights
General
Yes. All of China runs on Beijing time, UTC+8, including Yunnan in the far south-west, so set your watch two hours ahead of Dhaka. Dawn in Kunming therefore comes late by the clock, which is worth knowing when you plan early sightseeing.
Green Lake is downtown, close to restaurants, the old streets and the metro, and the Green Lake Hotel faces the park itself. Dian Lake lies to the south and is quieter; the lakeside resort under Where to stay is better for a slower stay than for city sightseeing.
Timing & weather
Some people do. The airport stands at 2,103 m and the city around 1,900 m, far higher than Dhaka. Most visitors notice only mild breathlessness on stairs or a light headache. Drink plenty of water, go easy on alcohol the first evening and leave the heavy walking for the second day.
A light rain jacket, a compact umbrella and shoes that dry quickly, since the wettest stretch falls in mid-summer. Because the city is high up, it stays far cooler than Dhaka in the same months, so add a sweater or fleece for the evenings.
Getting there
Two floors below arrivals, on level B2 of Terminal 1. Follow the Line 6 signs after customs. Trains head into the city and terminate at Tangzixiang, so you cannot overshoot; check on a metro map where to change for your hotel.
Yes. The Airport Shuttle leaves from level B1 of Terminal 1 and runs to both Kunming Railway Station and Kunming South Railway Station. It is a handy choice if you are going straight on by train to other parts of Yunnan or China, and saves changing metro lines with heavy bags.
If the whole trip is on one China Eastern ticket, the international allowance of 23 kg checked and 7 kg in the cabin normally applies to the domestic sector too. Separate domestic tickets can come with smaller limits, so check before you book them independently.
Yes. The airport hotel under Where to stay, close to Changshui, runs a free shuttle to the terminal. Holiday Inn Express and Days Inn by Wyndham are also near the airport and suit an overnight stop before a connecting flight the next morning.
Yes. A long-distance coach station sits just west of Terminal 1, so you can board a bus for towns around the province without first going into the city. Keep your passport in your hand luggage, since you will need it to buy tickets.
Visa & documents
Yes. Kunming is your first point of entry, so passport control and customs happen there even when the next flight is domestic. You then check in again or follow transfer signs for the onward China Eastern flight, all within Terminal 1. Allow a generous connection for the queues.
