Dhaka to Paro flight guide
Drukair, Bhutan's national airline, is the only airline flying nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) to Paro International Airport (PBH), the only international airport in Bhutan. Its ATR 42-600 turboprop covers the 408 km in about an hour. The flight suits travellers on a Bhutan tour and anyone who wants to skip the long road journey through India.
The final minutes are what people talk about afterwards. The aircraft drops into a deep river valley, with peaks rising to about 5,500 m, to a runway of about 2,265 m at roughly 2,235 m above sea level. Only a very small number of pilots are certified to land there, and landings are made only between sunrise and sunset in good visibility, so cloud can hold a departure in Dhaka.
The ATR 42-600 has about 48 seats, and with one airline on the route, seats can be hard to find on popular dates. Book flights before you finalise hotels and guides. The allowance is 30 kg checked and 7 kg in the cabin; overhead bins are small, so keep cabin bags soft and pack trekking poles in the hold. Bhutan Airlines, the other Paro-based carrier, does not fly to Dhaka; flying via Kolkata with it is one alternative when Drukair is full.
Bhutan's entry rules depend on nationality, and tourists pay Bhutan's Sustainable Development Fee for each night, at a rate that also varies by nationality. Confirm the current rate and any permits with Bhutan's Department of Tourism, and carry a passport valid for at least six months.
The airport is on the bank of the Paro Chhu, about 6 km from Paro town, and Thimphu is about 54 km away by road. Tiger's Nest, the cliffside monastery at about 3,120 m, is about 10 km north of town; spend a day or two adjusting to the altitude before the climb. Bhutan is on the same clock as Dhaka, UTC+6.
Drukair operates direct flights from Dhaka (DAC) to Paro (PBH). The flight takes about 1h 00m.

Our travel team answers questions about Dhaka to Paro flights
General
Yes. Bhutan and Bangladesh share UTC+6 all year, so there is no clock change at all. Your landing time in Paro is simply the departure time plus the hour in the air.
The approach threads a narrow valley with peaks rising to about 5,500 m, and only a very small number of pilots hold the certification to land there. Flights are also restricted to good visibility between sunrise and sunset, which is why cloud can hold a departure in Dhaka.
The monastery clings to a cliff at about 3,120 m, roughly 900 m above the floor of the Paro valley. It is a steady climb through pine forest, so spend a day or two in Paro adjusting to the altitude before attempting it, and carry water.
Three of the lodges under Where to stay are at the top end: one above Paro Dzong, built around 16th-century ruins, a wellness lodge above town, and one in pine forest near Drukgyel Dzong in the upper valley.
30 kg checked and 7 kg in the cabin. The ATR 42-600 has small overhead bins, so keep cabin bags soft and compact, and pack trekking poles in the hold.
Timing & weather
About 2,265 m, laid along the valley floor. Drukair serves Dhaka with a compact ATR 42-600 turboprop, and landings are allowed only in good visibility.
Getting there
Yes. One of the places under Where to stay sits beside the airport, handy for an early check-in on the way home or a late arrival. It is the simplest choice if your flight is the only fixed point in the plan.
Not from Dhaka. Bhutan Airlines, the other carrier based at Paro, serves Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, Kolkata and Pokhara. If Drukair is full, flying via Kolkata on Bhutan Airlines is one alternative, though it adds a connection.
Stay & facilities
Two of the hotels under Where to stay do: one near Satsam Chorten, about 15 minutes from the airport, and one set in forest at Olathang, the oldest hotel in Bhutan.
Booking
About 48. With one airline and a small aircraft on the route, seats can be hard to find on popular dates, so book flights before you finalise hotels and guides.
