Air China is the only airline flying nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). Five hours on a narrow-body
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 seats about 172, and on a flight of over five hours an aisle seat makes it easier to stretch. Bring a layer against the air conditioning. Economy tickets include 23 kg of checked baggage and 7 kg in the cabin, and extra weight is charged at the counter in Dhaka. Capital is Air China's hub, so a single ticket on to other Chinese cities keeps you in one airport with bags checked through.
Capital or Daxing?
Beijing has a second international airport, Daxing (PKX), about 65 km away to the south. China Eastern, China Southern and China United moved there, while Air China and Hainan Airlines kept their main Beijing operations at Capital. Check the airport code on any separate onward ticket and on hotel pickups.
Terminal 3 at Capital Airport in Shunyi
Capital Airport lies about 32 km north-east of central Beijing, in the Shunyi suburbs, and Air China works mainly out of Terminal 3. Opened for the 2008 Olympics with about 986,000 m2 of floor space and designed with Foster + Partners, it takes time to cross, so allow for the walk to immigration. Shuttle buses link all three terminals.
The Capital Airport Express train, about 30 km long, leaves Terminal 3, stops at Terminal 2, then calls at Sanyuanqiao and Dongzhimen before ending at Beixinqiao, all with subway connections. Taxis queue outside arrivals.
Chinese visa before check-in
China's visa rules depend on your passport. Bangladeshi citizens need a visa in hand before check-in, and other travellers should check their own passport with a Chinese embassy, with a passport valid for at least six months. Beijing keeps UTC+8, two hours ahead of Dhaka.
