Dhaka to Nilphamari flight guide
Flights from Dhaka to Saidpur take about an hour from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) to Saidpur Airport (SPD) in Nilphamari, covering 261 km nonstop. US-Bangla Airlines, Air Astra, NOVOAIR and Biman Bangladesh Airlines fly the route. It is the quick way into north Bengal for Rangpur, Dinajpur and Panchagarh.
Air Astra has the most regular pattern, with ATR 72-600 departures at 10:15, 14:15 and 17:15 every day. US-Bangla flies BS187 at 08:45 and BS191 at 19:15 from Monday to Saturday, with different flight numbers on Sundays and an extra 07:15 departure on some days. NOVOAIR's VQ963 leaves at 08:45 six days a week, and Biman's Dash 8-400 runs mostly in the evening. All of them list 20 kg of checked baggage.
Saidpur is the arrival point for Rangpur and Dinajpur, and for Panchagarh further north. It is also the way to the mountains, after a fashion. From Tetulia at the northern tip of Panchagarh you can see Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain, from the tea gardens on a clear day, and that view brings in plenty of visitors.
The town grew up around a railway workshop established in 1870 and still has a large Urdu-speaking community. Hotels sit close to the runway, the nearest on the airport road itself.
In midwinter, fog in the north can hold the early flights. If you have a fixed appointment on arrival, pick a midday departure and leave room in the plan.
Bring your National ID card. Foreign visitors check in with a passport.

Getting there
Three of the hotels under Where to stay are close to the runway: one on the airport road itself, one about 1.4 km away and one roughly 1.6 km out on Parbatipur Road. Any of them spares you a drive in the dark after landing.
Yes. One of the hotels under Where to stay, on Molla Road in town, offers an airport shuttle. Staying in town puts you closer to the markets and the railway quarter, and the pickup avoids haggling with drivers outside arrivals.
By road, heading north through Panchagarh district to its very tip. Book a car and driver for the run and plan to stay overnight in Tetulia. The mountain shows only when the sky is clear, so give yourself more than one morning there.
NOVOAIR, with the ATR 72-500. Air Astra and US-Bangla both use the newer ATR 72-600, while Biman flies the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400. All are turboprops with economy seating, suited to the short runway at Saidpur.
7 kg in the cabin, with 20 kg allowed in the hold on a standard economy ticket from any of the airlines. Overhead space on a turboprop is tight, so a soft holdall is easier to stow than a rigid trolley case.
Yes. It is the flight arrival point for both, and for Panchagarh further north. Arranging a car in advance through your hotel or host is the easiest way to cover the last stretch by road.
General
Chini Mosque at Islambagh, dating from 1863, is the best known. Saidpur Church followed in 1893, during the years when the railway was drawing workers to the town. Both make a good half-day alongside a look at the workshop district.
Biman runs a direct service between Saidpur and Cox's Bazar, so families from the north can reach the beach without changing planes in Dhaka. US-Bangla also links Saidpur with Chattogram for business trips to the port city.
Not yet. The runway is currently 6,000 ft long. Work started in 2018 to roughly double it to 12,000 ft, which would allow bigger aircraft and possibly international services, but until it is finished the airport is limited to turboprops.
The British built the Saidpur Railway Workshop in 1870, and the town grew up around it. It remains the largest railway workshop in Bangladesh and once served as the main repair base for the Assam-Bengal network.
