Dhaka to Male flight guide
Both airlines fly nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) to Velana International Airport in Malé (MLE): US-Bangla Airlines and Maldivian, the national carrier of the Maldives. The 2,837 km flight takes about 4 hours 10 minutes. It carries workers bound for jobs in Malé and the resorts, and couples on beach holidays.
Maldivian brought its Airbus A320, of about 180 seats, back to Dhaka on 12 March 2026 after a break of several months, flying twice a week, and includes 20 kg of checked baggage. US-Bangla includes 30 kg. Both allow 7 kg in the cabin. Workers moving for a long contract usually find the larger allowance easier, while a beach holiday needs less. Maldivian has paused the route before, so check the current schedule when booking.
Tourists get a free 30-day visa on arrival, but immigration asks for a confirmed return ticket and a prepaid hotel or resort booking. Every traveller must also submit the online IMUGA traveller declaration within 96 hours before the flight. Workers need the employment approval arranged by the employer.
Velana sits on its own island, Hulhulé. A new passenger terminal was officially opened in July 2025, so returning visitors will find a different arrivals layout. The Sinamalé Bridge, opened in 2018, connects the airport island by road with Malé city and with Hulhumalé, where most of the budget beach hotels are.
Resort guests are usually met at arrivals and taken on by speedboat or seaplane. Seaplanes leave from the airport's own seaplane terminal, also the base of Trans Maldivian Airways. One hotel on this page stands on the airport island itself, close enough to walk to the terminal before an early flight home.
Malé keeps UTC+5, one hour behind Dhaka, though some island resorts run their own clock up to two hours ahead of Malé.
