Qatar Airways bags, meals and through-ticketing
Qatar Airways is a full-service airline, so economy fares include a checked bag, meals and seat-back entertainment. The bag allowance depends on the fare family and the final destination, and it is shown in the booking. If Doha is only a transfer point, a single ticket keeps your bag checked through and protects the connection if the Bangkok flight is late.
Late-night Gulf departures and the expressway
The airport lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs from Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes, with an MRT Blue Line interchange at Makkasan. Taxis use the expressway, and the trip is quickest late at night when most Gulf departures leave.
Wide-body flights often board at SAT-1, the satellite concourse with 28 gates, eight of them built for the largest aircraft such as the A380. An automated train links it to the main terminal through a tunnel of about one kilometre, a trip of about three minutes including the wait, so build that into your walk to the gate.
Doha Metro Red Line from the Hamad terminal
Hamad International Airport sits on the eastern edge of Doha. The Doha Metro Red Line has a station at the terminal, a short indoor walk from arrivals, and runs north into the city, seven days a week. The line runs about 40 km from Al Wakra in the south to Lusail in the north, so West Bay and the Corniche are on the same line.
Two Red Line stations are interchanges. At Msheireb, all three metro lines meet, which is the easiest change for the Green and Gold lines; at Al Bidda you can switch to the Green Line. Taxis wait outside arrivals for those carrying more luggage.
Qatar visas, residence permits and transfers
Visa rules for Qatar depend on your nationality. Residents need a valid residence permit, and visitors should check the current requirements with Qatar's Ministry of Interior or the nearest Qatari embassy before booking. Passengers transferring at Hamad on one ticket stay airside and do not pass through immigration.
Same-day connections from Dhaka at Suvarnabhumi
Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways land at Suvarnabhumi from Dhaka (see our Dhaka to Bangkok flights page), and the Doha flights leave from the same airport, which makes a same-day connection simple. On separate tickets you still clear Thai immigration and check in again, which needs permission to enter Thailand and a completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card.
