Bangkok to Hong Kong flight guide
Multiple airlines fly nonstop from Bangkok to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), making it one of the busiest air routes in Asia. Seven leave from Suvarnabhumi (BKK); Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air fly from Don Mueang (DMK). The 1,689 km flight takes about 2 hours 35 minutes. Shoppers, business travellers, traders sourcing goods and passengers connecting to North America all fill the seats.
All the Hong Kong-based airlines fly it: Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, Greater Bay Airlines and the low-cost HK Express. Thai Airways International, Emirates and United Airlines also carry passengers between the two cities as part of longer journeys. Greater Bay Airlines, HK Express, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air price the seat alone, with bags and meals as extras, so compare the total fare.
Seven of the airlines use Suvarnabhumi, about 25 km east of the centre on the Airport Rail Link. Don Mueang, in the north, is reached on the SRT Dark Red Line or buses A1 to A4. The airports are on opposite sides of Bangkok, so check your ticket.
Hong Kong International Airport opened on 6 July 1998 on an artificial island built from Chek Lap Kok and reclaimed seabed off Lantau Island. A third runway opened in July 2022 as part of the airport's three-runway system. In 2024 it handled about 49.9 million international passengers, the ninth-highest figure in the world.
The Airport Express reaches Hong Kong station in Central in about 24 minutes, with free shuttle buses from Kowloon and Hong Kong stations to many hotels. Buses and taxis also run from the airport to Tung Chung, Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.
Hong Kong has its own entry rules, separate from mainland China. Check the Hong Kong Immigration Department website for the visa or pre-arrival requirements for your passport before booking.
Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways fly Dhaka to Suvarnabhumi (see Dhaka to Bangkok flights), and seven of the Hong Kong airlines leave from there. A Don Mueang connection needs at least four hours. Dhaka also has its own flights: see Dhaka to Hong Kong flights.
Hong Kong is one hour ahead of Bangkok all year.

General
The clock moves one hour forward from Thai time (Thailand is UTC+7). Neither side uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year.
Yes. Fly Dhaka to Bangkok on Biman, US-Bangla or Thai Airways, all of which land at Suvarnabhumi, then take one of the Hong Kong flights. Booking both legs on one Thai Airways ticket, where available, keeps you airside with your bag checked through. Two separate tickets mean clearing Thai immigration, which needs a Thai visa.
Hong Kong sets its own entry rules, separate from mainland China. Check the Hong Kong Immigration Department website for the visa or pre-arrival requirements for your passport before booking.
What's included
It depends on the airline. Greater Bay Airlines, HK Express, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air are low-cost carriers whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book. The full-service airlines normally include a checked bag; the allowance is shown on your booking.
Stay & facilities
On the full-service airlines, request a Muslim (halal) meal when you book or at least 24 hours before departure through the airline's manage-booking page. On Greater Bay Airlines, HK Express, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air, meals are bought online or on board; check the menu for halal options.
