Bangkok to Luang Prabang flight guide
Bangkok Airways flies nonstop from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Thai AirAsia from Don Mueang (DMK) to Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ) in northern Laos. The 706 km flight takes about 1 hour 25 minutes. Luang Prabang's temples and riverside old town draw travellers who want a slow few days on the Mekong, and Bangkok has the most direct flights there.
Bangkok Airways is the full-service choice and includes a checked bag. Thai AirAsia sells the seat alone and charges for bags, meals and seat choice. Lao Airlines, the national carrier and the airport's hub airline, resumes the route on 25 October 2026; it already links Luang Prabang with Vientiane, Hanoi and Chiang Mai.
Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of the centre on the Airport Rail Link. Don Mueang, north of the city, is on the SRT Dark Red Line and buses A1 to A4. Check the code on your ticket; the two airports are far apart.
Luang Prabang International Airport is about 4 km from the town centre, a 10 to 15 minute ride. Its runway is 2,500 m long and was enlarged in an upgrade in 2012 and 2013. Arrivals are quick by big-city standards, and tuk-tuks and vans wait outside.
Once there, the old town is compact and walkable. The Laos–China railway also stops at Luang Prabang, which gives a way to continue to Vientiane by train.
Laos's visa rules depend on nationality. Check the official Laos e-visa site or a Lao embassy before booking.
Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways land at Suvarnabhumi from Dhaka (see Dhaka to Bangkok flights), the same airport as Bangkok Airways. Taking the Don Mueang flight means crossing Bangkok and checking in again, so leave at least four hours.
There is no time difference between Bangkok and Luang Prabang; both keep UTC+7.

General
There is no time difference: both run on UTC+7 all year.
Yes. Fly Dhaka to Bangkok on Biman, US-Bangla or Thai Airways, all of which land at Suvarnabhumi, then take one of the Luang Prabang flights. Booking both legs on one Thai Airways ticket, where available, keeps you airside with your bag checked through. Two separate tickets mean clearing Thai immigration, which needs a Thai visa.
That depends on your nationality. Check the official Laos e-visa site or a Lao embassy for the current requirements before booking.
What's included
It depends on the airline. Thai AirAsia is a low-cost carrier whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book. The full-service airlines normally include a checked bag; the allowance is shown on your booking.
Cancellations & changes
Lao Airlines resumes 25 October 2026. Airlines publish these changes in advance, but dates can move, so check the schedule before you book.
Stay & facilities
On the full-service airlines, request a Muslim (halal) meal when you book or at least 24 hours before departure through the airline's manage-booking page. On Thai AirAsia, meals are bought online or on board; check the menu for halal options.
