Bangkok to Trat flight guide
Bangkok Airways is the only airline flying to Trat, and it flies from Suvarnabhumi (BKK). The two airports are about 232 km apart and the flight takes about 55 minutes on an ATR 72 turboprop. Bangkok Airways built Trat Airport in 2003 to give Koh Chang, Koh Kut and Koh Mak a faster link with the capital, and it still owns and runs it.
Because the flight leaves from Suvarnabhumi, you can step off an international arrival and onto it without crossing Bangkok. Bangkok Airways connects there with its own and partner airlines' flights, and its passengers can use the airline's lounges in Concourse A. Standard economy fares on Bangkok Airways include a checked bag, unlike the low-cost airlines. The Suvarnabhumi airport guide covers check-in and the terminal layout.
The terminal is a set of open-air pavilions in gardens, much like the airline's airports on Samui and at Sukhothai. It lies about 32 km from Trat town and roughly 17 km from the Ao Thammachat pier, where the car ferry crosses to Ao Sapparot on Koh Chang. Minibuses wait for each flight and drive straight onto the ferry, dropping passengers at hotels on the island; you can also take a taxi to the pier and buy a ferry ticket there in cash. The ferry runs from about 06:30 to 18:30, so even an evening arrival connects. The Centrepoint pier has been suspended since mid-2024, so ignore older advice that mentions it. Our Trat Airport guide has the full transfer options.
For Koh Kut and Koh Mak, the speedboats leave from piers near Laem Ngop, separate from the Koh Chang ferry, and check boat times before you book a late flight, because services to the smaller islands are fewer and stop early.
Trat province is one of the wettest parts of Thailand from about May to October, when sea conditions to the outer islands can be rough. The dry months from November to April are when the islands are at their best, and December to February books up fastest.
Trat Airport is owned and run by Bangkok Airways. It is in Bang Pit subdistrict of Laem Ngop district, officially opened on 31 March 2003, and has a single 1,800 m runway sized for the airline's ATR turboprops.
We check practical details such as entry rules, seasons and costs against official government and tourism sources.
Bangkok Airways flies nonstop from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) to Trat (TDX), the only airline on the route. The 232 km flight takes about 55 minutes on an ATR 72 turboprop.

Bangkok Airways, which owns Trat Airport, is the only airline here and flies from Suvarnabhumi.
Standard economy fares include a checked bag. Bangkok Airways closes domestic check-in 40 minutes before departure.
Three ways to make the island connection smoother.
The minibus drives onto the ferry and drops you at your hotel. It costs more than doing it yourself but saves juggling tickets and luggage.
Trat flights leave from Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok's main international airport. Book them on one ticket with your long-haul flight where possible.
The Koh Chang ferry runs into the evening, but boats to Koh Kut and Koh Mak stop earlier. Choose a morning flight for those islands.
The bus from Suvarnabhumi is much cheaper but takes about five hours against under an hour in the air.
| Mode | Journey time | Total trip time | One-way fare | Operators and timings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flight | About 55m | About 3 hours to Koh Chang with the ferry | Search fares | Bangkok Airways |
| Bus | About 5 hours | About 6 to 7 hours to Koh Chang | About ฿250 | First-class buses from Suvarnabhumi to Trat bus station |
